Maple Grilled Maitake

Maple Grilled Maitake

If you’ve “discovered” maitake then you know that this mushroom is amazingly healthy, has incredible flavour, and the most incredible textures of any mushroom available. It’s one of the many superfoods we carry. When you grill up these little gems, they “crisp” up on the outside and stay juicy on the inside. Truly a heavenly food!

Here is a great little recipe for maple grilled Maitake. Soak the Maitake in a maple marinade and grill them. Easier than pie. We prefer a broil setting on in the oven (around 450F) than stovetop, but either works. Truly grilling them on top of foil on the BBQ is the best option. Just remember to try to preserve that maple goodness whichever way you choose to cook them.

Here are the ingredients for the Maitake Maple Marinade

Maitake Maple Marinade

Ingredients:

200-300g Maitake

3 tablespoons organic maple syrup

2 tablespoon minced shallot

2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

tablespoon whole grain mustard

1 sprig fresh NL Organics Rosemary (chopped)

1 clove NL Organics garlic, smashed

1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil or melted butterCoarsely ground black pepper to taste
Newfoundland sea salt to taste

Mix these ingredients together and let stand for 15 minutes to allow for all the flavours to mingle. Then marinate the Maitake with this flavourful mixture for up to 4 hrs.  Grill, leaving the marinade on the mushroom. Toss lightly every 5 minutes of cooking for up to 15 minutes or until it’s reached the texture you prefer.

et voilà!
